Ausgangspunkt der Untersuchung ist die Frage, welche Vor- und Nachteile des informationstechnisch gestützten Arbeitens von Geisteswissenschaftler/inne/n gesehen werden – insbesondere im Bereich digitale Editionen. Im Mittelpunkt stehen Bedarfsaspekte, die in einer Interview-Studie erhoben und inhaltsanalytisch ausgewertet werden. Nutzerbedarfsforschung zu virtuellen Forschungsumgebungen, Werkzeugen und Datenbanken wurde in den digitalen Geisteswissenschaften bislang überhaupt nicht oder unzureichend betrieben – etwa durch Befragungen mit vorgegebenen Antwortmöglichkeiten, die bedeutende Anforderungsaspekte ausblenden. Die methodisch aufwändigere, offenere und transparentere Erhebung und Auswertung in dieser Studie beleuchtet das Bedarfsspektrum und seine Facetten umfassend. Dabei wird deutlich, dass nicht etwa einfach benutzbare Werkzeuge zentral sind, sondern dass electronic vernetzte Inhalte und damit verbundene Möglichkeiten des Transfers und der Aushandlung von Wissen die entscheidenden Faktoren darstellen. Textuelle und diskursive digitale Strukturen bilden den thematischen Kern der Arbeit und werden aus editionsphilologischer, textual content- und diskurslinguistischer sowie informations- und wissen(schaft)stheoretischer Sicht analysiert.
